Cardiff is the capital of Wales, and has a population of 362,800. The current average sale price in Cardiff is £402,661. Cardiff is the seat of the National Assembly for Wales.

Cardiff was originally a small town, but became prominent as a major port for the transport of coal during the nineteenth-century. The town became a city in 1905. Cardiff has numerous shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes and bars. Castle Quarter is a retail destination area in the city centre.

Sites of interest include the National Museum Cardiff, the Welsh National War Memorial, the medieval Cardiff Castle, the twelfth-century Llandaff Cathedral and Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral. The Coal Exchange was constructed in the late nineteenth-century. St David's Hall is a performing art venue in the city with a seating capacity of 2,000. Wales Millennium Centre is an arts centre that has hosted performances of music, ballet, opera, dance and theatre. There are several museums in Cardiff, including St Fagans National Museum of History. The Bishop's Palace, Llandaff is a ruined medieval residence near Llandaff Cathedral.

Cardiff Bay is the location of several notable buildings, including the five-star Voco St David's Cardiff Hotel, the nineteenth-century Grade I listed Pierhead Building, the Senedd, the Wales Millennium Centre and the nineteenth-century Norwegian Church Arts Centre. Shops, bars, restaurants and cafes are located on Mermaid Quay. Roald Dahl Plass is a public space used for carnivals and festivals. Cardiff Bay railway station has one platform in use.

There are four institutions of higher learning in the city: Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan University, the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, and University of South Wales. Cardiff University was established in 1883. There are several primary and secondary schools in Cardiff, as well as further education colleges including Cardiff and Vale College and St David's College.

The Millennium Stadium (also known as the Principality Stadium) is the national stadium of Wales and has a capacity of 73,931-80,000. Cardiff City Stadium is the home of Cardiff City F.C. There are sports facilities in Cardiff for sports including ice hockey, boxing, motorsports and cricket.

Cardiff Central railway station offers services to destinations including Bristol, London, Swansea, Bath, Southampton, Gloucester, Manchester and Birmingham. Cardiff Queen Street railway station is the second-busiest railway station in Wales. Cardiff Airport offers flights to locations such as Ireland, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece and the Netherlands. There is a comprehensive bus network in operation in the city.
