Liverpool is a popular tourist destination due to its status as the home of the Beatles and other bands from the Merseybeat era. Liverpool is internationally known for music. The M&S Bank Arena hosts live music and has a capacity of 11,000. Liverpool Empire Theatre opened in 1925 and has the largest two-tier auditorium in the United Kingdom. It has a seating capacity of 2,348. Philharmonic Hall is a concert hall that was built in 1939.

The city has a number of parks, including two Grade I and five Grade II* listed parks. Liverpool has facilities for sports including football, boxing, golf, horse racing and cricket. Liverpool F.C. was founded in 1892 and play their home games at Anfield, which has a capacity of 53,394. Everton F.C. were formed in 1878 and play their home games at Goodison Park, which has a capacity of 39,221.
