Oakham is the county town of Rutland. It has a population of 10,922 and a current average sale price of £289,236. The town lies 23 miles west of Peterborough and 25 miles east of Leicester.

Sites of interest in the town include Oakham Castle, which was constructed between 1180 and 1190. It is a listed building. All Saints' Church is a Grade I listed building and dates from the Middle Ages. It was restored during the 1850s. Rutland County Museum is located in the old Riding School of the Rutland Fencible Cavalry, and the museum opened in 1969.
