Attractions in the town include Whitby Abbey, which dates from the seventh-century and is mentioned in Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula". The abbey's ruins are Grade I listed and the site is managed by English Heritage. Cholmley House is a banqueting house next to the ruins of Whitby Abbey, and was constructed in 1672. It serves as the museum, shop and visitor reception for Whitby Abbey. St Mary's Church is a Grade I listed building and dates from the twelfth-century. Whitby Lighthouse is Grade II listed and the light was first lit in 1858. The Pavilion Theatre was built during the 1870s and hosts a range of events. The Old Town Hall is a Grade II* listed building that was constructed in 1788. Events that take place in the town include Whitby Folk Week and Whitby Goth Weekend; the latter takes place every two years.
