Preston is a city in Lancashire, with a population of 122,719. It lies on the north bank of the River Ribble.
Preston was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. It was granted a Guild Merchant charter in 1179 and the city was a boomtown during the Industrial Revolution. Sites of interest in Preston include Sessions House, which is a Grade II* listed building constructed between 1900 and 1903. Harris Museum is a Grade I listed museum that opened in the nineteenth-century; the building also houses a public library. Other museums in Preston include Lancashire Infantry Museum and the Museum of Lancashire. Preston Guild Hall is an entertainment venue in the city that opened in 1973.
