Poole is a coastal town in Dorset, with a population of 151,500. Poole adjoins Bournemouth to the east.

Sites of interest include the Lighthouse, which is an arts centre with a 669-seat theatre, a 1,500-seat concert hall and a 105-seat cinema. Poole Harbour is a natural harbour that has an area of 36 kilometres squared. Beech Hurst is a Georgian mansion in the town centre. Scaplen's Court is a Grade I listed fifteenth-century house in Poole, and is now used as a museum. The town's Guildhall was constructed during the eighteenth-century and is a Grade II* listed building. St James' Church is Grade II* listed and was rebuilt during the nineteenth-century.

Poole Quay is a visitor attraction and is lined with bars, pubs and apartment blocks. There are several parks in the town, including Poole Park, which opened in 1890 and has an area of 110 acres. Poole has a large number of primary and secondary schools, while Bournemouth and Poole College provides further education courses. It is one of the largest further education colleges in the United Kingdom. Arts University Bournemouth is based in Poole, and has an enrolment of 3,315 students. Bournemouth University has its main campus in Poole.

Poole railway station offers services to destinations including Southampton, London and Weymouth. The other railway stations serving Poole are Branksome, Hamworthy and Parkstone. There are bus services in operation in the town to locations such as Weymouth, Lyme Regis and Exeter.
