The town was recorded in the Domesday Book. Landmarks include the Church of All Saints, which is a Grade II* listed building and was constructed during the fifteenth-century. It was restored during the 1850s. Ashwick House is a Grade II listed Edwardian mansion four miles northwest of Dulverton. Barle Bridge is also Grade II listed, and dates from the Middle Ages, although it was repaired on a number of later occasions. The Tarr Steps is a Grade I listed clapper bridge across the River Barle.
