Shrewsbury is the county town of Shropshire. It has a population of 71,715 and a current average sale price of £238,096. The town is located 9 miles east of the Welsh border.

Landmarks in the town include Shrewsbury Castle, which is a Grade I listed building and was constructed during the eleventh-century. The castle now houses the Shropshire Regimental Museum. Ditherington Flax Mill is Grade I listed and is the world's first iron-framed building. The Quarry is Shrewsbury's main recreational park; it was created in 1719 and covers an area of 29 acres. Lord Hill's Column is England's tallest Doric column and stands 40.7 metres tall. St Mary's Church is a redundant Grade I listed Anglican church that dates from the Middle Ages. St Chad's Church is also Grade I listed and was built in 1792. Shrewsbury Library is housed in a Grade I listed building; the site was formerly the home of Shrewsbury School. Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery was founded in 1835. Shrewsbury Abbey is a Grade I listed building that was founded in 1083.

Other attractions in Shrewsbury include the Parade Shopping Centre, which is a Grade II listed building with 24 stores. The town has nine bridges that cross the River Severn, including the Grade II* listed English Bridge and the Grade II* listed Welsh Bridge. The Old Market Hall was constructed in 1596 and is Grade I listed; it has recently been refurbished as an arts venue and café. Theatre Severn is Shrewsbury's main performing arts complex and includes two performance spaces, the Main Auditorium (with 635 seats) and the Walker Theatre. The Golden Cross is believed to be Shrewsbury's oldest licensed pub, having been in use since the fifteenth-century. It is a Grade II* listed building.

A range of events take place in the town, such as the annual Shrewsbury Flower Show, the Shrewsbury Folk Festival, the Cartoon Festival, Shrewsbury Bookfest, Shrewsbury Regatta, Cycle Grand Prix, Shrewsbury Carnival, Food Festival, Dragon Boat Race and the Coracle World Championships.

Shrewsbury has facilities for sports such as football, rugby, golf and cricket. Shrewsbury Town F.C. play their home games at New Meadow, which has a capacity of 9,875.

There are a number of schools in Shrewsbury, including Prestfelde School, Adcote School, The Priory School, Meole Brace School, Shrewsbury Academy and Shrewsbury School. The latter is an independent boarding school founded in 1552. Shrewsbury Sixth Form College provides A Level courses and BTECs. Shrewsbury College is a further education college in the town. University Centre Shrewsbury is a Higher Education institution that provides undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Shrewsbury railway station offers services to destinations including Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Holyhead, Chester, Wrexham, Aberystwyth, Pwllheli, Milford Haven, Swansea, Llandrindod Wells, Rugeley, London and Coventry. There are bus services in operation in the town.
